Event
Pongal, also known as Sankranti, Makara Vilakku, or Makara Sankramana, is a vibrant four-day harvest festival dedicated to expressing gratitude to the Sun, Mother Nature, and the hardworking farm animals that play a vital role in bringing forth a bountiful harvest. This includes Mattu Pongal, a special day where cattle are bathed, decorated with painted horns, and honored with offerings of sweet rice to thank them for their essential labor in the fields.
Goda Kalyanam (also known as Andal Kalyanam) is the celestial wedding ceremony of Goda Devi (Andal) and Lord Ranganatha (an incarnation of Lord Vishnu).
It is a deeply symbolic and beautiful tradition, primarily celebrated in South India. It usually takes place on the final day of the Dhanurmasam month (mid-January), coinciding with the Bhoghi festival (the day before Pongal/Sankranti).
