Makara Sankranti / Pongal & Goda Kalyanam

Community Pongal/Sankranti/Makara Vilakku /Makara Sankramana Celebration & Goda Kalyanam Celebration @ San Martin VVGC temple

Timings: 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM
Event
Pongal, also known as Sankranti, Makara Vilakku, or Makara Sankramana, is a vibrant four-day harvest festival dedicated to expressing gratitude to the Sun, Mother Nature, and the hardworking farm animals that play a vital role in bringing forth a bountiful harvest. This includes Mattu Pongal, a special day where cattle are bathed, decorated with painted horns, and honored with offerings of sweet rice to thank them for their essential labor in the fields.
Goda Kalyanam (also known as Andal Kalyanam) is the celestial wedding ceremony of Goda Devi (Andal) and Lord Ranganatha (an incarnation of Lord Vishnu).
It is a deeply symbolic and beautiful tradition, primarily celebrated in South India. It usually takes place on the final day of the Dhanurmasam month (mid-January), coinciding with the Bhoghi festival (the day before Pongal/Sankranti).
9.30 am - Arrangements to prepare Sarkarai(sweet) Pongal
10 am - Sarkarai (sweet) Pongal preparation by devotees
11 am - Cow and Calf Pooja (Mattu Pongal)
11.15 am - Melam performance
11.40am - Pongal Aarati for Surya Bhagawan and GoMatha's
11.45 am - Goda Kalyanam
1 .30 pm - Sri Maha Managala Aarati
1.30 pm - Pongal Bhojanam/Maha Prasadam/Priti Bhoj
We warmly invite all devotees to join us in this auspicious celebration, and encourage you to bring along your friends, family, and neighbors to share in the joy of this special occasion.
If you would like to prepare Pongal on your own (with your own ingredients/supplies) or participate in this event, please make sure to register yourself. Your involvement will surely enhance the spirit of the celebration. We look forward to celebrating together!

🪔 Temple Update and Urgent Appeal 🪔

We're very grateful to our supporters, donors, and community for making our temple a reality. Since its inception in 2012, we've invested over $10 million in developing our 13-acre prime property, featuring religious and commercial zoning.

However, we now face an urgent obligation to a lender who has supported us since day one. We've received a notice to pay off a debt of approximately $1 million. Given their long-standing partnership, we feel a strong commitment to fulfill this obligation.

We're humbly reaching out to our community for emergency fundraising support. Every contribution counts, and we welcome donations or loans with interest options. Your support will help us clear this debt and ensure the temple's continued growth and service.

Thank you for considering this appeal. 🙏
